March for Babies 2009 ~~ A Success!

Jacob, Robby, Grandpa & Grandma 2009 March for Babies
On Sunday, May 3rd, my boys were healthy enough to do the March for Babies for their second year in a row! This year my parents also joined us. It was a little sunny, but most importantly, it didn’t rain!
Last year we walked with the NICU nurses, but unfortunately didn’t meet up with them this year. We were able to walk with the Miracle McCanns for part of the walk. Their team consisted of 38 walkers and they were the 5th highest family team in raising money! Over $4000 !!! Way to go McCann Family! We met some of the McCann family on April 27, 2007. Robby & Jacob were roommates with Hailey when they entered this world 3 months early. Hailey, Andrew and Molly were born at 24 weeks and had already been in the University Of Washington NICU for a month. Andrew was over at Seattle Children’s Hospital when we first got there, but he returned to the NICU not long after we arrived. Molly was in the room next to ours, but the nurses in there would not let her move to our room. Little Molly weighed 15 ounces at birth…not even one pound! She was one very sick little baby, but quite the fighter. I saw her at the walk this year and could not believe she was 15 pounds and still a fighter. There is a quite a story behind this wonderful family and I will let Heather McCann, the mother tell it….hopefully on MothersOfMultiplesUndressed.com.

I’d like to share with you the music video Heather made to launch her 2009 March For Babies Team…………. Get out the Kleenex!

The March of Dimes is an incredible organization and without them and their research, my boys, along with thousands of other children would not be here today. If you read the previous blog post I wrote, you will see my personal history and thoughts about the March of Dimes. It is a very tough road when you have a premature baby or two or three of them. I would not wish that experience on anyone!
I found a very interesting diagram about how the money raised can help a premature baby… (click on the photo to bring you to the page that shows how people have already helped.
I also found this video from KOMO 4 News about a day in the life of a preemie and their family. Even though I was living that life 2 years ago, it still makes me cry and remember every heart wrenching day I experienced.
Unfortunately, with Robby being hospitalized twice in recent past, I was unable to form the team I wanted to in order to raise thousands for the …However, there is always next year!
I encourage you to go to the March of Dimes website and read the many touching stories families have contributed.
